Place du Vieux-Marché – 80 m² – Sleeps 6

The apartment

In the heart of Rouen’s historic centre, overlooking the iconic Place du Vieux-Marché, Le Cotin Bleu welcomes you to a charming 80 m² duplex set within a 17th-century half-timbered building.

Just a short walk from Rouen Cathedral, the Gros-Horloge and the city’s medieval streets, this characterful apartment blends history, elegance and contemporary comfort.

Restaurants, markets, galleries, antique shops and lively bars are all just outside your door, while the apartment itself remains peaceful and secluded — a quiet retreat in the heart of the city.

A unique place from which to experience Rouen on foot, in a refined and inspiring setting.

The spirit of Le Cotin Bleu

In the Norman dialect, a “cotin” is a small house or cottage.

A charming old word that perfectly captures the spirit of this intimate home, with its beautiful original timberwork.

A wall of Rouen faience plates A 1970s leaf lamp

We imagined this apartment as a retreat in the heart of Rouen — somewhere you can instantly feel at home while still enjoying the feeling of being somewhere special.

The interior tells a story, bringing together different periods and influences. It draws inspiration from the decorative world of Madeleine Castaing and the bold, slightly theatrical elegance of Hollywood Regency, but without formality.

We love mixing styles, playing with contrasts and allowing beautiful objects to live naturally together, while maintaining a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Here, antique prints sit alongside 1970s lamps, a wall displaying traditional Rouen ceramics, touches of bold pattern and a palette of rich colours — duck-egg blue, mustard yellow and sage green — that bring warmth and character to the rooms.

Every object has been discovered along the way, through antique markets, flea-market finds and pieces we simply fell in love with, with the aim of creating a home that feels personal, warm and just a little unexpected.

The duplex is arranged over two floors, with two bedrooms tucked beneath the rooftops, giving it the feeling of a small house perched above the historic city. And fittingly, in the Norman dialect, a “cotin” means just that: a little house.

We created Le Cotin Bleu as a home from which to discover Rouen at your own pace — wander through the antique shops of Rue Damiette, enjoy dinner on the Place du Vieux-Marché, or simply lose yourself in the charming streets of the historic centre.
